Full Product Description

The Tsunami Pure-5 Pure Series Regenerative Air Dryer is a compact, wall-mounted compressed air drying system designed to provide exceptionally clean, dry compressed air for shops, production equipment, and dedicated point-of-use applications.

Rated for up to 15 CFM and designed for approximately 5 HP compressor systems , the Pure-5 combines Tsunami's two-stage pre-filtration system with twin regenerative desiccant towers to remove liquid water, oil aerosols, particulates, and water vapor from the compressed air stream.

The Pure-5 can deliver dew points down to -80°F and relative humidity levels as low as 0.01% , making it an excellent solution for applications where moisture can affect paint quality, equipment performance, production processes, or finished products.

Before compressed air reaches the desiccant towers, it passes through an integrated two-stage filtration system:

  • First Stage Water Separator: Removes liquid water and particulates down to 10 micron.
  • Second Stage Oil Coalescing Filter: Removes bulk oils and aerosols while filtering particulates down to 0.01 micron.

After pre-filtration, the compressed air enters Tsunami's regenerative drying system. One desiccant tower actively dries the compressed air while the second tower is regenerated using a small amount of dry sweep air. Approximately every two minutes, the dryer automatically switches towers, providing a continuous supply of dry compressed air.

The Pure-5 uses approximately 1 CFM of regeneration air , allowing the molecular sieve desiccant to continuously regenerate during normal operation.

Two drain configurations are available:

  • PN 21999-1105 – Float Drains: Standard automatic float drain configuration.
  • PN 21999-1105-MM – Moisture Minder® Pneumatic Drains: Pneumatically operated drains designed for dependable automatic condensate removal.

Both configurations provide the same 15 CFM drying capacity, dew points down to -80°F, 120V operation, and 175 PSI maximum operating pressure .

Benefits

Provides Extremely Dry Compressed Air

The Pure-5 can provide dew points down to -80°F , making it suitable for applications requiring significantly drier compressed air than a conventional refrigerated air dryer can provide.

Complete Filtration and Drying Package

The Pure-5 includes Tsunami's integrated two-stage pre-filtration system, eliminating the need to separately select a water separator and oil coalescing filter for normal installations.

Continuous Regenerative Drying

The twin-tower design allows one desiccant tower to dry the compressed air while the other regenerates. The dryer automatically alternates between towers approximately every two minutes to provide continuous drying.

Automatic Desiccant Regeneration

Instead of requiring frequent manual desiccant replacement or regeneration, the Pure-5 uses approximately 1 CFM of dry sweep air to regenerate the inactive tower during operation.

Protects the Desiccant

Liquid water, compressor oil, and particulate contamination can shorten desiccant life and reduce dryer performance. Tsunami's integrated water separator and oil coalescing filter remove these contaminants before they reach the dryer towers.

Choice of Automatic Drain Systems

Choose the standard 21999-1105 with float drains or the 21999-1105-MM with Tsunami Moisture Minder® pneumatic drains , depending on your preferred condensate management system.

Compact Wall-Mounted Design

The Pure-5 combines filtration and regenerative drying into a compact wall-mounted package, saving valuable floor space while placing the air treatment system close to the compressor or point of use.

Integrated Two-Stage Pre-Filtration

Every Pure-5 system includes Tsunami pre-filtration consisting of:

Stage 1 – Water Separator

  • Removes liquid water
  • Filters particulate down to 10 micron
  • Automatic condensate drain
  • Water Separator: PN 21999-0390
  • Replacement Element: PN 21999-0846

Stage 2 – Oil Coalescing Filter

  • Removes bulk oils and aerosols
  • Filters fine particulate down to 0.01 micron
  • Automatic condensate drain
  • Oil Coalescing Filter: PN 21999-0390-Z-FD
  • Replacement Element: PN 21999-0394

Proper pre-filtration is especially important with regenerative desiccant dryers because liquid water, compressor oil, and particulate contamination can contaminate the desiccant and reduce drying performance.

How the Tsunami Pure-5 Works

Compressed air first enters the integrated water separator , where liquid water and larger particulate contamination are removed.

The air then passes through the oil coalescing filter , which removes bulk oils, aerosols, and fine particulate contamination before the air reaches the regenerative dryer.

Inside the dryer, molecular sieve desiccant adsorbs water vapor that cannot be removed by conventional compressed air filtration.

The Pure-5 contains two desiccant towers . During operation:

  1. One tower actively dries the compressed air.
  2. The second tower uses approximately 1 CFM of dry sweep air to regenerate its desiccant.
  3. Each tower dries for approximately 120 seconds .
  4. Approximately every two minutes, the control system switches air flow between the two towers.
  5. The regenerated tower begins drying while the previously active tower regenerates.

This continuous regeneration process provides consistently dry compressed air without requiring routine manual desiccant regeneration.

Float Drain vs. Moisture Minder® Pneumatic Drain

PN 21999-1105 – Float Drain

The standard Pure-5 uses automatic float-operated drains on the integrated pre-filtration system.

Condensate is discharged automatically as it accumulates within the filter bowls, providing a simple and economical automatic drainage solution.

PN 21999-1105-MM – Moisture Minder® Pneumatic Drain

The 21999-1105-MM configuration uses Tsunami Moisture Minder® pneumatic drains for automatic condensate removal.

The Moisture Minder configuration provides pneumatic condensate drainage without relying on an electrical timer drain and is an excellent choice for users who prefer Tsunami's pneumatic drain system.

Important Sizing Information

The Pure-5 has a maximum rated capacity of 15 CFM and is listed by Tsunami for approximately 5 HP compressor systems .

Tsunami's published dryer flow ratings are based on operating conditions of approximately:

  • 100°F inlet air temperature
  • 175 PSI inlet pressure
  • 100 PSI outlet pressure
  • 80 PSI minimum inlet pressure

Lower inlet pressure and higher inlet temperatures can reduce dryer performance and the quality of the downstream compressed air.

The Pure-5 also consumes approximately 1 CFM of compressed air for regeneration , which should be considered when sizing the compressor and dryer for the application.

For best performance and dew point control, the dryer should be sized according to actual compressed air flow, operating pressure, inlet temperature, and available compressor capacity , rather than compressor horsepower alone.

Why Choose the Tsunami Pure-5?

The Tsunami Pure-5 is designed for compressed air applications that require extremely dry air but do not need the capacity or footprint of a large industrial regenerative dryer.

By combining two-stage pre-filtration and regenerative desiccant drying into one compact wall-mounted package , the Pure-5 provides a complete air treatment solution for applications up to 15 CFM.

Its twin-tower design continuously regenerates the desiccant during operation, while the integrated filtration system protects the dryer from liquid water, oil, and particulate contamination.

For users who prefer pneumatic condensate management, the 21999-1105-MM Moisture Minder® version provides pneumatic drains while maintaining the same 15 CFM drying capacity.

The maximum published inlet air temperature is 150°F .

Is the Pure-5 a refrigerated air dryer?

No. The Pure-5 is a regenerative desiccant air dryer . It uses molecular sieve desiccant to remove water vapor and can achieve substantially lower dew points than a typical refrigerated compressed air dryer.

Should I size the Pure-5 based only on compressor horsepower?

No. The 5 HP rating provides a general compressor-size reference. The dryer should ultimately be selected based on actual CFM, operating pressure, inlet temperature, and available compressor capacity . The Pure-5 has a maximum rated flow of 15 CFM and consumes approximately 1 CFM for regeneration.
